Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the visit of the delegations of Finland and Sweden to discuss the issue of joining the North Atlantic Alliance will not change Ankara's position on this situation.

“Turkey will not say yes to joining the security organization of those countries that impose sanctions against our country,” Erdogan stressed.

Recall that Finland and Sweden have expressed a desire to join NATO. The alliance says it is ready to quickly accept these countries as its members. Earlier it was noted that the countries intend to apply this week. In Turkey, there has been a backlash against reports of both countries joining NATO due to the fact that they have become a "guest house" for terrorist organizations, in particular the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), banned in Turkey. For other NATO members, Ankara's position came as a surprise. The head of the leading European People's Party in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber , warned of the possible isolation of "doubters" in the unity of NATO in the event of blocking or slowing down the entry of Finland and Sweden into the alliance.
