Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech at the anniversary XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday proposed to reduce the rate on preferential mortgages from 9% to 7%.

“The Central Bank lowers the key rate. In this regard, I consider it possible to once again reduce the rate on preferential mortgages. Now up to 7%”, - Putin said at the SPIEF plenary session.

The Russian leader stressed that the program of preferential mortgages in Russia after the rate cut will be extended until the end of this year. At the moment it is 9%.

“The purpose of this measure is to help citizens solve housing problems, to support the construction and related industries, and there we employ millions of workers”, - the President of the Russian Federation noted.
