We have too many officials: Zhirinovsky proposed the liquidation of the Federation Council
LDPR party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky proposed halving the number of deputies in future State Duma elections and liquidating the Federation Council.
“Elections to the State Duma will be in September 2021. Let's elect 200 deputies, why do we need 450? Let's liquidate the Federation Council - this is tracing paper from the British Parliament. But Britain does not have a constitution, why do we not take such tracing paper? Let’s not have a constitution either, ”Zhirinovsky said.
The party explained that in the traditional parliamentary design, the upper house, which represents the aristocracy, is a censor over the lower house. However, in Russia there is no aristocracy, as in monarchical Great Britain. “The Federation Council represents the interests of the regions, State Duma deputies are elected from the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Now half of the lower house of parliament consists of single-mandate voters who are directly elected from specific territories. This gives reason to think about the functionality of the Federation Council”, - RIA Novosti writes with reference to the party’s press service.
On Tuesday, Zhirinovsky also announced that Russians need to get used to working remotely. According to the politician, employers will see advantages in organizing such work, since there is no need to incur additional costs for office rent. “Our common task is not for the time of self-isolation, but for the whole 21st century to get used to the idea that it is better to live and work in isolation. There should be one person in the office. Apartments need to be built one-room, maximum two-room. And it’s time for the family to start giving two neighboring apartments on the same floor so that there is the possibility of solitude in case of illness, or working on a remote site, ”Zhirinovsky said.
Earlier, for the prevention of coronavirus, Zhirinovsky proposed shaving his mustache.
