Former President of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko is also accused of abuse of power.

The decision to institute criminal proceedings was taken by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine after audio recordings of the alleged negotiations of Poroshenko, former US Vice President Joseph Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry were published, Ekho Moskvy reports, citing the Ukrainian Truth publication.

The deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Derkach, who made the recordings public, said that Poroshenko raised tariffs for Ukrainian citizens for large sums from Washington.

The parliamentarian said that the recordings were made by Poroshenko himself in his own interests.

On May 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference on the first anniversary of his presidency, confirmed that the investigation was being conducted by the Prosecutor General.

One of the conversations concerned the dismissal of Viktor Shokin from the post of Attorney General at the request of Biden. For this, according to the notes, Biden promised Poroshenko to provide $ 1 billion for Ukraine. Also, politicians discussed the presence of a coalition in parliament, the resignation of the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the approval of Cabinet of Ministers Volodymyr Groysman.

In turn, the ex-president’s party says that the audio recordings were fabricated in order to undermine US support for Ukraine and involve Kiev in the campaign for the election of the American president.

Recall that the Ukrainian general prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was dismissed by Radov in 2016, who investigated the activities of the Burisma Group, whose directors included Biden’s son, wrote a statement to law enforcement agencies about the intervention of the American vice president in his work. Later, he tried unsuccessfully to appeal the dismissal in the courts of appeal. Last September, he filed a complaint with the Court of Cassation of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
