NASA - on the coming flood: the level of the world's oceans will rise by one meter

Climatologists working at the American space agency NASA have come to the conclusion: in nine to ten years, the world will shudder from massive floods and fires. Troubles will not bypass Russia either. Scientists believe that man and the cycles of the moon's oscillations are to blame.

Israeli news agency Cursorinfo, referring to experts at NASA and the University of Hawaii, said that the coming flood will be largely influenced by the oscillations of the moon, as well as global warming.

As space agency analyst Ben Hemlington has warned, the frequency of coastal flooding will increase worldwide. Moreover, they will become more ambitious. We'll have to think about how to deal with them in order to lead a normal human life.

According to the scientist, the cycles of the Moon's oscillations, which last for about two decades, cause the tides to increase and decrease. Therefore, it is the Earth's satellite that will affect the level of the World Ocean on our planet.

Experts believe that flooding in some months will follow one after another, and residents of some areas of the United States, for example, will observe them at intervals of one or two days. This can lead to the destruction of sewers, and also threatens traffic paralysis on the roads. It is clear that, first of all, the American economy will suffer.

Soon, sea level rise will be a problem that humanity will have to address immediately. The combined efforts of many states will be required. NASA believes that by the beginning of the next century, the level of the World Ocean will rise by at least 1 meter. In Europe and Asia, thus, huge territories and even entire countries will go under water.

Since 2006, due to global warming, Antarctica and Greenland have already lost 430 billion tons of ice and immediately the level of the world's oceans has risen. Scientists' special attention is focused on the Thwaites glacier in West Antarctica, the melting of which may turn into a threat of a 65 cm rise in the level of the World Ocean.

In a worst-case scenario, coastal flooding could affect about 300 million people, or 4% of the world's total population.

And here are the predictions of NASA scientists for the longer term. They modeled a map with areas of the Earth that could be underwater by 2100. In Europe, the main victim of the global flood will be Great Britain, northern Germany and France will be significantly affected.

In the United States, the territories of the states of North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland will be partially flooded, in Asia - some regions of China, Bangladesh, and India. In Oceania - the northern part of Australia.

Nature will take revenge on Russia for "mockery" of her. Experts say that the climate in the Russian Arctic is gradually changing and, first of all, people are to blame for this. But Alexey Kokorin, director of the Climate and Energy Program of the World Wildlife Fund of Russia, is confident that if the human factor is minimized, for example, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, then a catastrophe will be avoided.

As reported to Novye Izvestia in Roshydromet, in recent years, average temperatures in Russia have been growing 2.5 times faster than the rest of the world. Temperatures at the mouth of the Ob River have increased by 6 degrees Celsius compared to the 1960s.

The warming has already led to a sharp increase in the number of ticks in central Russia, Siberia and the Far East. Forecasts indicate that the situation will only get worse in the coming decades.

Scientific American warns Russians that high temperatures will primarily negatively affect the country's agriculture. After a short-term increase in yields, leaner times will come. However, according to the assurances of scientists, such droughts, which are expected in the countries of Central Asia, are not expected in Russia. Nevertheless, the aridity of the climate in the next 10 years may contribute to a decrease in yields in the main grain-producing regions of Russia. According to economists, losses can reach 15-20% of the gross grain harvest.

Currently, climate change in Russia is already leading to an increase in dangerous meteorological phenomena that cause hurricanes, showers, floods, and fires. Their number has tripled over the past 20 years. According to the EMERCOM of Russia, about 60% of Russians live in areas where the damaging factors of weather elements can cause significant damage to the population and infrastructure.

Today, the annual economic damage from emergencies caused by climatic anomalies is estimated by Russian experts at around 100 billion rubles. In the future, according to experts' forecasts, the costs of eliminating the consequences of natural disasters may rise to 675-900 billion rubles a year, which is equivalent to 1.5-2% of the gross domestic product.

“To avoid catastrophic global warming, states need to implement rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society”, - says the UN report on climate change.

It is technically possible to achieve a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, but this will require large-scale changes in energy, industry, construction, transport and cities. But most importantly, it is necessary to put an end to armed conflicts and wars on Earth.
