Investigators opened a criminal case against convicted Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny on the creation and leadership of an extremist organization.

Two more associates of Navalny are also accused in this criminal case: Leonid Volkov and Ivan Zhdanov, follows from a message published on the website of the Investigative Committee. A criminal case was initiated against them under Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

In addition, a criminal case was opened against six more of Navalny's supporters for participation in the extremist community (Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

We are talking about the creation and participation in the FBK * organization, recognized on the territory of the Russian Federation as a foreign agent, as well as an extremist organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation, and Navalny's headquarters * (also recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

As noted in the message, the activities of the community, for the creation, leadership and participation in which the opposition is tried, "was aimed at discrediting the state authorities and their policies, destabilizing the situation in the regions, creating a protest mood among the population, as well as forming public opinion about the need violent change of power ". To achieve this goal, the leaders and members of this organization have regularly held public events since 2014, at which they "called on people to engage in extremist and terrorist activities, causing harm to public order and public safety."

The opposition is suspected of intending to "change the foundations of the constitutional order, undermine public security and state integrity" of the country. For this, Navalny's non-profit organizations were created in 37 regions of the country.
