Ottawa needs to establish interaction and peaceful dialogue with Moscow and Beijing because of the intensification of the struggle for influence in the world. So says Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly.

In an interview withPrime 's CBC television, Joly noted that in the face of instability created by the movement of the "tectonic plates of the world", the Canadian government should take a more pragmatic approach, and participation in discussions with representatives of Russia provides an opportunity to counter its position on all the problems of today.

“There is a struggle for minds, influence, and as Russia and China turn towards Africa, Asia and Latin America, the West needs to show its best side, get in touch with Russians and Chinese and interact with them”, - Melanie Joly said.

The diplomat believes that the absence of Canada in the peace dialogue “does not contribute to overall stability” in the world, and with such a policy, the country loses its influence in the world, as other G7 countries communicate with both Russia and China.
