Scientists: people with the first blood group are the most protected from coronavirus

The research was conducted by the California company 23andMe, which is engaged in decoding the genome.

It turned out that people with the first blood group are infected with coronavirus 9-18% less often. The regularity discovered by scientists is inherent in both positive and negative Rh status, although studies conducted earlier indicated only a positive Rh status.

As Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, previously reported, people with the first group are in second place after patients with the second blood group most vulnerable to coronavirus. Also, according to Skvortsova, people with the third blood group are most susceptible to the disease. The least risk of getting COVID-19, according to the head of the FMBA, exists in people with the fourth blood group.

Previously, studies of people's exposure to coronavirus infection depending on the blood group were conducted by Chinese scientists. They found that people with a second blood group are more at risk for coronavirus infection. Among the deceased patients, there were also more people with a second blood group; this figure reached 40%. In China, the second blood group is less common than in Western countries. Therefore, assumptions were made that, perhaps, this is associated with a higher mortality from a new infection in the USA and Europe.

According to the latest data, 7.3 million coronavirus infections were detected in the world, 416 thousand people died.
