At 81, the drummer of the legendary British band The Rolling Stones Charlie Watts died.

According to BBC News, referring to the musician's publicist, Watts died in a London hospital, surrounded by loved ones. The death statement said he was "a beloved husband, father, grandfather and one of the greatest drummers of his generation."

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Watts would be skipping the band's tour as he was recovering from a medical procedure. What exactly the musician was ill with was not specified, however, it is known that in 2004 he was undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

Note that the name of Watts is included in the lists of the most prominent drummers who have made up various music publications. The drummer has performed with The Rolling Stones since 1963.
