By the decision of the Soviet District Court of Novosibirsk, a physicist, head of the laboratory of quantum optical technologies at Novosibirsk State University, Dmitry Kolker (pictured) was taken into custody. He is suspected of treason. He will remain in custody until August 29.

According to the sane article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the scientist faces 12 to 20 years in prison. The decision of the court has not entered into force, it can be appealed.

The 54-year-old scientist was taken from the hospital where he was being treated. Kolker is accused of providing China with data “containing state secrets,” his son clarified. Searches were carried out at the home of the scientist's family, and his equipment was confiscated.

The media reported that the head of the laboratory regularly gave lectures in China, including on the topic of laser spectroscopy and the basic principles of lidar. All these reports were certified by the special departments, which confirmed the absence of state secrets in their content, Kolker's son said. Moreover, everywhere the scientist was accompanied by FSB officers, he was forbidden to speak and speak in English.

In the social network VKontakte, the daughter of Dmitry Kolker wrote that her father had the fourth stage of cancer, he could not eat on his own. She pointed out that the family currently had no information about his state of health and did not even know if he was alive.

Taiga.info suggested that the Kolker case may be related to the case of 80-year-old RVN academician Sergei Bagaev, scientific director of the Institute of Laser Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Bagaev was suspected of particularly large-scale fraud, believing that the Siberian Laser Center headed by Bagaev entered into a fictitious contract for the provision of services. As a result, damage of 2 million rubles was caused.
