Human rights activist Lev Ponomaryov decided to close down his organization For Human Rights after the amendments to the law on foreign agents. This was stated by Ponomaryov himself in an interview with “Dozhd”.

Ponomaryov explained that he was forced to close the organization because its employees would not be able to fit into the new work regulations required by law. “My organization employs about a thousand people across the country. They do not report to me, and I do not think that this can be done”, - he said in an interview. The human rights activist added that the continuation of the organization's activities would only result in fines for the experts of this organization, so its founder decided to close it.

According to Ponomaryovv, the adopted amendments to the law on foreign agents are aimed at the systematic, deliberate destruction of the human rights movement in the country.

It's worth reminding that in December last year, a bill was introduced to the State Duma for consideration on the introduction of criminal liability for foreign agents if they violate the rules of work. For media outlets that are recognized as foreign agents, the minimum punishment will be a fine of 300 thousand rubles, the maximum - imprisonment up to two years. A similar penalty is provided for individuals who are recognized as foreign agents.
