The Ekho Moskvy radio station was taken off the air after the Prosecutor General's Office demanded that measures be taken to restrict access to the information resource.

This was stated by the editor-in-chief of the radio station Alexey Venediktov.

The editors will challenge the decision to disconnect in the courts.

"We see in it a political component, as well as the introduction of censorship, which is directly prohibited by the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The claims contained in the submission are not supported by any examples, any evidence, they are unfounded and insulting for journalists and citizens of Russia", - Ekho Moskvy said.

Alexander Nevzorov said that due to the radio "Echo of Moscow" being off the air, the program "Nevzorov Wednesdays" will be released only on the Youtube channel Nevzorov.tv.

Earlier it became known that the Prosecutor General's Office submitted to Roskomnadzor demands to take measures to restrict access to the information resources of "Echo of Moscow" and "Rain TV Channel" * due to "targeted placement" of calls for extremist activity, violence, as well as knowingly false information " on the actions of the RF Armed Forces in Ukraine.

Perhaps the reason for Ekho Moskvy being off the air was the use of the word “war” about a special operation conducted by Moscow in Ukraine.

Note that Roskomnadzor restricted the media in using sources of information about the special operation. When preparing materials and publications relating to the conduct of a special operation in connection with the situation in the LPR and DPR, they are obliged to use information and data received by them only from official Russian sources.

It is worth clarifying that the Echo shutdown occurred from the RADIO AIR. On the Internet, the editorial office continues to work, although some providers restrict access to the radio station's website.

Let us also remind you that the last time "Echo" was cut off the air was during the August putsch of 1991.
