About 40 million Russian pensioners have faced a catastrophic decline in their real incomes: the decline was the highest in the last 5 years.

As noted by, against the background of the rapid acceleration of inflation, the real size of pensions in Russia has been declining for the eighth month in a row at an increasing rate.

These data follow from the official statistics of Rosstat, included in the report on the socio-economic situation of the country.

The statistics department notes that in September compared to August, the average pension in Russia increased by 7 rubles, and since the beginning of the year - by 829 rubles - to 15,847 rubles a month. However, taking into account the catastrophic inflation, which rose to 7.4%, real pensions fell by 1.2%. In September and June they decreased by 1%, in July - by 0.9%, in May - by 0.5%, in February-April - by 0.1-0.2%. As fast as it is now, retirees' incomes have never fallen since 2016, when oil prices plummeted.

Experts predict that by the end of October the situation will only worsen, since inflation has already accelerated to 8%.

According to the plans of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation, in 2022 the average pension will be increased by 5% (819 rubles) - up to 17,115 rubles. However, with 8% inflation in reality, people will not gain, but will lose 3% from their pensions.

By advertising the pension reform, the authorities promised pensioners a "significant improvement" in the standard of living. However, in reality, these predictions did not come true. Many pre-retirees, forced by the reform to retire 3-5 years later than previously planned, feel "robbed".

The deputies who voted to raise the retirement age in the country by 5 years are still considered by many residents to be “traitors”.
