Rostov authorities deny forced dismissal of the "Teacher of the Year"

Earlier, Alexander Ryabchuk, a history and social science teacher at Rostov Lyceum No. 11, said that his superiors forced him to resign after he took part in a mass rally in defense of opposition politician Alexey Navalny on January 23.

“On January 27, Ryabchuk filed a letter of resignation at his own request from his post from January 29. He was dismissed from his post on the basis of a personal statement of his own free will", - Interfax quotes the statement of the city administration.

As Ryabchuk himself said on his Instagram page, January 29 was his last day at school.

“On January 23, I went outside and began to broadcast live. Then I began to write on the Internet about what I think. In my speeches, I emphasized: only adults can commit political actions! I challenged the authorities and the device started working...”, - he said.

According to the teacher, in a private school where he got a part-time job, after the action, he worked only for two days, and in the lyceum, where he worked for 7 years, repressions began against the teacher.

“Influential people called the director of a private school, after which she said that the continuation of our cooperation is possible with a complete refusal to publicly present her point of view. The municipal system told me the same thing”, - he explained.

According to the "teacher of the year", he had good growth prospects in pedagogy: after winning the city competition, he was preparing to perform at the regional stage, and the lyceum did not want to let him go.

“However, I understand that the authorities will not tolerate such criticism, which I carry out on social networks. A teacher can engage in politics only if he makes a choice in favor of a political party that is a member of the State Duma, or even better, one that holds the majority there. All the time, I taught my children my subjects, focusing on how important freedom is! When I was faced with a choice between career and freedom, I chose what I taught myself”, - the teacher summed up.

Numerous students expressed words of support and gratitude to the dismissed teacher for the knowledge gained. Many said they were proud of his deed and believed that he made the right choice.

Alexander Ryabchuk has twice become a laureate of the Teacher of the Year pedagogical competitions. In 2014, he became the best at the regional stage of the All-Russian competition of professional skills in the "Pedagogical debut" nomination, and in 2020 - won at the municipal stage of the "Teacher of the Year - 2020" competition in the main nomination.
