During the New Year holidays, Russians will rest from December 31 to January 9. The last day of the year will also be a day off as it falls on Saturday

The head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov spoke about this at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

- On New Year's holidays, we will have 10 days off - by December 31, 9 days in January will be added <...> Given the fact that December 31 falls on Saturday in 2022, it will be a priori non-working, - the TASS minister is quoted as saying.

The head of the department indicated that the May weekend will be long next year: both on the first days of May and on May 9 there will be four days off. Kotyakov believes that this will help citizens to escape from everyday work.

In April, the minister said that the Ministry of Labor was considering proposals to increase the May holidays. At the same time, the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov did not confirm that the authorities were going to approve such a scenario.

To abandon the long New Year holidays in favor of extending the May ones was previously suggested by the head of Fair Russia, Sergei Mironov. In his opinion, it is enough to rest for the New Year for five days plus January 7, but on the May weekend it is not enough.
