Homeless man, warming himself by the eternal flame, was charged with the rehabilitation of Nazism

As reported by Znak.com with reference to the press service of the Miass City Court, a young homeless man was accused of rehabilitating Nazism under Part 3 of Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code and sent to a pre-trial detention center for two months.

Explaining their demand, the investigators pointed out that the homeless person "can go into hiding" at large.

A homeless man was detained on September 30 near the "Eternal Flame" memorial in Miass. Shortly before that, the police received a signal that "unknown vandals" had made a fire at the memorial. The security officials decided that a detained person without a fixed abode was involved in the crime.

“The homeless man decided to burn the wreath in order to dry his socks over the resulting fire; he damaged the star, it had to be dismantled and sent for restoration", - Novaya Gazeta notes.

First, on the fact of the incident, a case was opened under Article 214 of the Criminal Code "vandalism", which implies a fine of up to 40 thousand rubles as a punishment, correction of work up to a year or up to three months of arrest.

However, then the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, became interested in the circumstances of the case. He instructed his Ural subordinates to report to him the details of the "desecration of the memorial" in Miass.

And then from the Ministry of Internal Affairs the case of the homeless was taken to the UK, re-qualifying the article for a more serious one about justifying Nazism. The punishment for it involves a fine no longer up to 40 thousand, but up to 3 million rubles, and the term of imprisonment is not up to three months, but up to three years.

Human rights activists have expressed concern that the controversial law on the "rehabilitation of Nazism" has recently been supplemented by new "senseless amendments" that involve more and more brutal repression against citizens.

Meanwhile, in a number of cities they are taking a different path. So, in Kostroma, the construction of a shelter for the homeless is nearing completion, where people who have lost their jobs and are left homeless are going to create decent conditions, restore lost documents, improve their health and help return to normal life.
