American basketball player Brittney Griner, who is in jail in Russia on charges of drug smuggling, wrote an appeal to United States President Joe Biden, asking the head of state to help her return home.

"I am sitting in a Russian prison alone with my thoughts, without protection from my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey and any achievements. I'm horrified that maybe I'm here forever," - Reuters quotes the words of Greiner.

She recalled that she voted for Biden in 2020 and still believes in him. The 31-year-old basketball player asked not to forget about her and other Americans behind bars:

"Please do your best to bring us home".

It's worth reminding that on February 17, 2022, Brittney flew from New York to Moscow. At Sheremetyevo Airport, she was detained at customs due to the reaction of a service dog to drugs. In the things of an American, they found electronic cigarettes with hash oil (a concentrated product from hemp), which is prohibited in Russia. Greiner now faces up to 10 years in prison for drug possession and smuggling.

Upon learning of the arrest in Russia of a US citizen, a State Department spokesman was indignant and said that the Russians "illegally detained" Greiner. However, in Washington they know that she was "caught red-handed".
