Citizens are afraid to get infected with coronavirus not only from each other but also from products that they buy in stores. Lack of information generates rumors and fear. To dispel them Roskontrol answered the most popular questions about COVID-19 and grocery products.

Coronavirus does not breed in food . The fact is, Roskontrol writes that the virus is not a bacterium, and therefore it can only get to food if the infected person touches her with her hands and coughs. But in this case, the virus will not be able to multiply there, since it needs a living carrier.

You have to cook the food as usual. No additional measures need to be taken - previous studies have shown that the SARS virus dies in 1-3 minutes at a temperature of 149 degrees. Despite the fact that such tests with COVID-19 have not yet been conducted, scientists believe that the situation with him will be similar.

Coronavirus is not found in meat. The virus is primarily transmitted orally. It is impossible for them to become infected by meat.

An unwashed apple can be a source of infected. Such a risk exists only if the sick person sneezes on this apple. The same with other products - fruits, vegetables, bread. In practice, there are few such chances, but it is necessary to wash fruits and vegetables before eating. Recall that in one of the large Moscow supermarkets the entire team was quarantined, and a number of products were destroyed after one of the movers got infected with the coronavirus.

It is not necessary to wash fruits and vegetables with special means. It is enough to wash them as usual. Soap, vinegar and special detergents can harm the stomach, experts from Roskontrol write. In this case, ordinary water can literally wash away a hypothetical virus. As for bread, it is worth choosing the products of only well-known bakeries. According to the scientific consultant of the Expert Center of the Consumers Union, the hygienist Andrei Mosov, a number of the most stringent security measures are being taken at most serious enterprises, and therefore it is more reliable to buy bread from a large producer.

Coronavirus may linger on product packaging. Theoretically, if you touch a can of yogurt, a bottle of water, or another package that contains the virus, and then bring your hands to your face, you can get sick. In practice, the probability of infection in this way is small, but it still exists. Scientists note that the virus begins to weaken. If earlier it could be on a plastic surface for up to 72 hours, now its activity time has been reduced to seven hours. This reduces the chances of catching the coronavirus from the purchased goods that the infected person touched, but you should always wash your hands thoroughly after returning from the store.

The virus will die while transporting products from other regions. Many citizens fear that products brought from regions with an unfavorable epidemiological situation may contain coronavirus. But since he lives relatively shortly, a long transportation will not survive .

It is safer to order take-away food than going to the grocery. Today, says Roskontrol, unprecedented precautions are being taken at catering facilities. The health of employees is monitored, and therefore there is an extremely small chance that an infected cook will cook the food. In addition, in order to “infect” lunch, the cook must not only be the carrier of COVID-19, but also sneeze on the food and touch it with his hands without gloves. Also, most restaurants today offer contactless delivery, and therefore getting infected by a courier is also quite difficult.
