The Brest authorities banned the organizers of the Immortal Regiment march in Belarus from holding an annual event in the Brest Fortress.

According to IA Regnum , the procession of the "Immortal Regiment" is prohibited both in the heroic Brest Fortress and on the central streets and squares of the city.

“Participants of the public action intend to celebrate Victory Day on May 9 privately. It is not excluded that they will be able to hold the procession on one of the secondary streets of the city”, - the message says.

For more than half a year, numerous rallies, processions and pickets have been held in Belarus to express distrust of the current government. They began in August 2020, after the CEC of Belarus awarded the victory to the incumbent head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, as a result of the presidential elections.

Despite numerous reports of fraud, Lukashenka took the top management post in the country for the sixth time in a row. Residents of the republic, outraged by the lack of a change in power in the country, began to take to the streets en masse and demand the resignation of Lukashenka, the holding of new democratic elections and the release of all political prisoners.

Against the background of protests shaking the country, amendments were introduced to the legislation in Belarus, which banned the previous notification principle of holding actions and returned the authorization procedure for organizing mass events. The responsibility for holding unauthorized mass events involving a meeting of two or more people has been toughened.
