Project “Monsters, get out of the playroom!”: Novye Izvestia reporter cured Huggy Wuggy

“Where do you get all this, where from do you dig it up? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Masha, and what do you have?!” - this is the example of what i've heard during three years that I have been working on my project dedicated to modern toys and cartoons.

But there are still disproportionately more like-minded people.

Maria Dubinskaya

So, first things first. Three years ago, I opened a profile on social networks called "Monsters in the playroom", which I later renamed to "Monsters, get out of the playroom!", because it more correctly reflects the essence of the idea. She also created the corresponding hashtags: #монстрывдетской and #монстрывониздетской, and then she also started a telegram channel of the same name monstri_von_iz_detskoy.

The fact is that for a number of years now I have been purposefully photographing toys in children's stores, which, in my opinion, are extremely difficult to call toys. They cause nothing but bewilderment and disgust. The same applies to many modern cartoons, screenshots of fragments of which I also collect.

What for? I'll tell and show. I am sure that everyone who really cares about what is happening in the field of childhood has repeatedly paid attention to how many vile toys and games are presented in children's goods stores today and what nightmarish cartoons are shown on children's TV channels and on the Internet. The hair moves in horror, but, nothing, judging by the fact that now it is "on every button", it means that it is "decided" that this is just right for the kids. Evil is now very cleverly "packaged" and made very attractive for children and adolescents.

I believe that children's stores, to one degree or another (somewhere it is expressed more, somewhere less), have turned into a kind of "den of monsters", which is why it is somehow not right to call these stores corners of goodness, joy and light. very successful. And leaving a child in front of a TV screen, let's call a spade a spade, is simply unsafe. Unless, of course, you want to raise a moral cripple and neurotic.

Somehow I came across a wonderful article by Mikhail Budargin (Kultura newspaper) entitled “An Uplifting Cartoon”. This title conveys as accurately as possible what the creators of animated films used to invest in their excellent work. The same can be fully attributed to the "old" toys.

What about today? What "elevation" are you talking about?

Freaks, monsters, robotic creatures, aliens, some infernal entities, vulgar, vicious…

A separate topic is the “dead man”, all these “charming” zombies, voodoo, characters with signs of decay (oh yes, there are whole series of toys and animated series!), mummies and more. By the way, a very interesting program on this topic was made by colleagues from the YouTube channel "TV Day" - the release is called "Occult Lobby": who promotes "films from hell", I strongly recommend watching.

“The trouble is that that reality no longer exists, the context has changed and it still won’t work to hide the younger generation in Mitten. We'll have to come up with new heights and continuity, and it's good that domestic animation is already smart and skilled enough to get involved in this work, ”wrote Mikhail Budargin in Culture. And who changed the "context"?

“Hide in Mitten” may not work, but showing such cartoons to modern children, of course, is vital. Because they warm the soul and awaken the best feelings and qualities. Of course, in the current domestic animation there are not only "smart and skillful" authors, but also authors who have a conscience. They create beautiful works, but they are not shown on TV. Or very rarely shown. For some reason. Why?

Even the program “Good night, kids!” went on a dubious path. ; for some time now, issues along with Khryusha and Stepashka have been periodically led by the robot Aitisha, promoting the topics of financial literacy and digitalization (even the topic of biometrics goes to the letter “B”), which, of course, cannot but repel vigilant parents. And after Soyuzmultfilm was 80% taken over by one of the banks, the postman Pechkin from Prostokvashino began to criticize the books - you see, they are so heavy, uncomfortable... Do you understand where the wind blows?

In short, returning to the essence of the article, today we see a kaleidoscope of characters of varying degrees of defectiveness and disgust, but at the same time presented in an attractive wrapper for a naive and gullible child, open to everything, with a touch of “coolness” and “coolness”, in bright colors, often with a kind smile...

Like the same creepy couple - blue Huggy Wuggy and pink Kissy Missy, who literally occupied not only schools, but also kindergartens (these characters, if someone doesn’t know, came from computer game in which they kill people; in general, a lot of things “migrated” to the sphere of childhood from nightmarish video games, this is a separate huge topic).

When we recently managed to give this Huggy Waggi as a gift, the child and I decided not to throw it away, but came up with a game - we did educational work with the monster and cured it.

As a result, the vile toothy head went straight into the trash can, and in its place we sewed a soft toy - an octopus, and put on a cap. Now this is not Huggy Wuggy, but rather cute Krendel Fendel. Of course, something rather absurd happened, but, you see, the appearance of the creature has changed significantly for the better.

I note that all the familiar parents, and children, were delighted with our idea. Some of those who have already "settled" Huggy Waggi at home assured that they would follow our example, as they no longer want to see the nasty creature in the children's room every day.

What else would you like to say about this topic? Please note: today, in the field of vision of our children, characters are almost completely absent, let's say, close to real life.

Normal, ordinary dolls have almost disappeared - as an image of a human being. We see entirely creatures that are visually different from people, very or not very much, and endowed with certain magical abilities (the so-called "superpowers"), everywhere you look - only "superheroes" around, cyborg people, half-animal people, and so on. .

A person, one might say, is distorted, somehow supplemented, changed, edited. Because “just a human”, created in the image and likeness of God, is already bad, it is no good. This is exactly how, if you look into the deep essence, the theomachic ideas of transhumanism are slowly instilled in the younger generation.

And the saddest thing is that for many - both parents and children - all these variegated freaks and monsters have long been something repulsive, unacceptable, and even just disgusting. That is, the notorious “Overton Window” has long been opened in this part of our life too. "If you don't want it, don't look, don't buy!" - this is the answer of such people. But it's hard not to "look" when it's being pushed to you from all the cracks.

Monsters and freaks, imperceptibly so, quietly, have become something completely familiar and normal, an element of everyday life .

Look at what toys are offered as a gift for a purchase for a certain amount by the Magnit, Pyaterochka and Dixie retail chains: all these Skrepyshy, Prilipali, Bravli and Tresnutie, for which children literally hunt - just "handsome", as a selection! Why is it impossible to come up with a series of cute educational toys for such marketing campaigns, but you definitely need to use infernal entities from Western cartoons? The question is rhetorical.

The process is noticeable not only in toys and cartoons, but also in books, clothes, accessories, stationery, packaging of confectionery and so on. In short, across the entire range of products for children and adolescents.

Even babies began to be dressed in rompers with some kind of one-eyed horned monsters, in hats with Spider-Man 's hoodies and T-shirts with the image of vulgar LOL dolls, which you just want to call "slut girlfriends".

These dolls, which are “legged!”, are desperately similar to strippers, and there were individual specimens that, when bathed, you could see BDSM-style underwear showing through under the influence of water . LOL are just wildly popular with girls. Everything is done so that it is considered fashionable, witty and funny. By the way, there are whole analyzes dedicated to the early sexualization of children through such dolls. The writer Vadim Shegalov ( plandemia news) on his YouTube channel has repeatedly devoted a video to this topic, one of the latest releases concerns a transgender Barbie and a pregnant Ken.

And now the question does not leave me: why, in fact, such heroes are presented - more precisely, actively imposed on our children, as something interesting, worthy of attention, correct and - think of yourself, what else? And, most importantly, why does this not meet with any resistance in supervisory and controlling institutions, although sane parents have long sounded the alarm and are indignant ?

I sent a request to Rospotrebnadzor. The answer came on two sheets (for No. 50-12 / 30-60515-2021). My clear questions (accompanied by photographs of nasty toys from children's stores) regarding whether we even have bodies of control over the moral component of games and toys coming to the shelves, both produced in Russia itself and imported from outside, were are simply ignored. The answer of Rospotrebnadzor predictably concerned something completely different.

Judge for yourself, here is the key snippet:

“...The requirements for toys are established by the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of toys” TR TS 008/2011 , approved by the decision of the Commission of the Customs Union dated September 23, 2011 No. 78. According to it, toys are put into circulation on the market if they comply with this Technical Regulation of the Customs Union , as well as other technical regulations of the Customs Union, EurAsEC, which apply to them, and provided that they have been confirmed in accordance with Article 6 of this technical regulation of the Customs Union, EurAsEC, which apply to them. Such toys are marked with a single mark of circulation of products on the market of the Member States of the Customs Union, toys that are not marked with a single mark of circulation on the market of the Member States of the Customs Union are not allowed to be put into circulation on the market.

Here you can get acquainted in detail with this very Technical Regulation of the Customs Union "On the safety of toys" TR TS 008/2011 and make sure that there is not a word about the aesthetics of the visual design of toys and their semantic load. All attention is focused only on the design of toys, the safety of the materials from which the toys are made, as well as on the use of products and age appropriateness.

And although Article 4, Clause 1 of this regulation states that “ a toy must be designed and manufactured in such a way that, when used for its intended purpose, it does not pose a danger to the life and health of children and persons looking after them, and provides no risk” - none of the drafters of the document thought about the risk to mental health. I wonder if this was done by accident, through inattention, stupidity, or intentionally? ..

Move on. Today, we practically do not see our, Russian, traditional characters on the shelves of children's stores, so to speak, primordial, on which, one way or another, previous generations were brought up. Why are bogatyrs and knights completely forgotten in Russia? Where are these toys? Show me! Unless, you can find toys based on the cartoon "Alyosha Popovich and Tugarin the Serpent" (to which, by the way, there are also a number of questions, as well as to "Masha and the Bear" with the nervous Masha in the title role). Why are magazines and characters from "Murzilka" and "Funny Pictures" forgotten? These publications, by the way, are still published to this day, and they are wonderful. Like the children's magazine "Luchik", which is generally beyond praise.

But all this is our history, the connection of times and generations.

Once I conducted a survey among children in the playground, as well as in kindergarten. No one could say the names of the Russian heroes (a few guys remembered only Ilya Muromets). And to the question of who is depicted on our fabric bag for walking (it was just a souvenir bag from the Murzilka magazine), only a few knew the answer.

But the so-called superheroes and villains from the "Marvel Universe" - everyone named them. It is not for nothing that children so often ask to decorate birthday cakes with these characters. Moreover, I have personally witnessed more than once how children aged 3 years and older bring into the garden not that of the Huggy Waggi mentioned above, but even Venom and Sirenhead. If you don't know who it is, here are pictures for you just from kindergarten.

A vivid example illustrating the sabotage that has occurred in relation to our younger generation, I saw in one of the children's clubs near Moscow. We came there to find out about holding a children's holiday and asked if it was possible to order an animator - Dunno.

We were told that, alas, there is no such character in their “assortment of heroes”, just as there is no Russian hero, Vasilisa the Beautiful, the old woman Shapoklyak, the Wolf and the Hare from “Well, you wait!”, Captain Vrungel and so on.

“This is not popular!”, The administrator answered me, spreading her arms. Of course, this is partly cunning, since no one offers such characters to children in clubs. There would be an offer - wishing to be found.

I specially photographed a stand in this children's institution with an advertisement for those heroes that could be ordered for the holiday. Think about it: out of 14 characters, only one - and even then, very conditionally - can be called ours, domestic. This is a “girl in a sundress”, which will pass for Alyonushka and Masha from the popular animated series. All other characters are trolls, transformers, square-headed minecraft, etc.

And why? I think that because in the children's environment, love and interest in their native culture were not maintained at the proper level, but washed away. Parents who work hard from morning to night to earn a piece of bread do not have time for such conversations: they put a tablet with some kind of Creeper in the child's hands - they still look, and that's fine.

In general, all the best for our children?

There is definitely an answer.

Such characters should not be regarded as an invitation to a wonderful childhood, where love for the world around and neighbors, kindness, friendship, joy and happiness rule - no. And, of course, not as an invitation to study the history and traditions of the motherland (let me remind you and emphasize: if anything, love for your native culture does not at all mean dislike, disrespect and hatred for other cultures, do not distort and distort!).

This is an invitation to something completely different.

As an Orthodox person, I am deeply convinced that all these monsters and so-called superheroes, who look like the inhabitants of the underworld (and often, as follows from their fabulous "biography", they are), who flooded the shelves of children's stores and TV screens, Naturally, along with other things, they are a manifestation of what is commonly called the struggle between good and evil.

Now is the time when this struggle from the metaphysical plane has most powerfully broken through to the physical plane, in all directions at once, and we, one way or another, observe and feel all this, and our children too.

And the souls of children for destructive forces, the forces of evil - the most desirable of the targets, the most tasty morsel.

Therefore, the guidelines of children are deliberately confused and broken in all possible ways, therefore the picture of the world for children is so intensely distorted, purposefully littered, defiled.

So that children forget how to be surprised and enjoy the simple joys of life, real joys - blades of grass and insects, sunbeams, a fascinating book. To learn how to love and be friends. To grow up cynical, cold, calculating and depraved.

Because the goal of those who massively plant such images is to raise people with certain moral and moral qualities. "By their fruits you will know them."

We, adults, brought up on traditional values and completely different characters and examples of behavior, are immune to various rubbish, we know how to distinguish what is what.

Our children, alas, are already forced to drink from a dirty source. No matter what filters the family itself puts, muck from the outside seeps in actively, if not aggressively.

"Today's children are tomorrow's people", - wrote Sergey Mikhalkov. Remember?

In a word, as a mother and as a journalist, I decided to start doing the little that was in my power. And, in the end, the pictures, of which several hundred have already accumulated over the years, began to somehow classify, study plots with the participation of characters in order to understand “where the legs grow from” - after all, you need to know the enemy by sight; write requests to various authorities, to children's TV channels, and so on. And, of course, to talk about this topic with everyone I can, both in my environment and through publications in social networks and the media.

Now a new stage of this whole story has come. I am very glad that fate brought me together with wonderful people, real heroes of our time, organizers and activists of the All-Russian - and even international - Union of Parents "Together" , which unites parents from 72 regions of Russia and a number of foreign countries.

We are like-minded people. And we understand that if everything is seen only as a fight against windmills, it will be impossible to change the situation.

The topic of nasty toys and cartoons should not just be discussed and exposed - it is important to move from shaking the air to some real business. The streams of sewage pouring out on our children need to be dealt with.

Yes, of course: this is just one of the many problems that require solutions in the field of childhood, but it can no longer be ignored either. Where are Rospotrebnadzor, Roskomnadzor, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education looking?..

We invite everyone who is concerned about this topic to join us.
