The head of the UGIBDD of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, Alexey Semyonov (pictured), was arrested for two months by a court decision.

It is reported by RIA Novosti. Semyonov was sent to a pre-trial detention center on a criminal case on abuse of power. The article assumes up to ten years in prison.

On the eve, two other defendants in this case were arrested: assistant to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sergey Umnov, and former deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, Ivan Abakumov.

As the investigators found out, from 2016 to 2020, officials from among the senior staff of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region bought property for personal use with the money of the Fund "Assistance to the programs of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region".

TASS reports that the case is connected with separate (commercial) interdistrict registration and examination departments (MREO) of the traffic police. They appeared in St. Petersburg in the 1990s. In 2020, searches were carried out in these departments. The Ministry of Internal Affairs then liquidated the system.

Note that Semenov resigned at the end of last year.
