In the Chelyabinsk region, the authorities commented on the results of a study by the Federal Agency for Fishery, which, investigating the mass kill of fish, found that the permissible concentration of phenol in the Shershnevsky reservoir was five times higher. As Novye Izvestiya was told in the press service of the department, a dangerous substance appeared in the drinking spring of a city with a million inhabitants as a result of natural phenomena.

“The reason for the excesses is purely natural. The appearance of phenol in ecosystems is the result of the metabolic processes of aquatic organisms of higher plants during biochemical decay in the water column, the ministry said. - All information about excesses was transferred to the supervisory authorities for appropriate further response measures. In view of the fact that the Shershnevskoye reservoir is subject to federal state environmental supervision, control over its condition in the Chelyabinsk region is carried out by Rosprirodnadzor. Issues related to aquatic biological resources are within the competence of Rybnadzor, the quality of drinking water - Rospotrebnadzor.

As Novye Izvestiya previously reported , State Duma deputy Vladimir Burmatov drew attention to the situation with phonol in the Shershnevsky reservoir. In the summer of 2022, residents of SNT Medic discovered a massive fish kill. After that, they conducted a study of water, and it turned out that the permissible concentration of phenol was exceeded in the reservoir by 5 times.
