The press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia announced the initiation of another criminal case after a fire in the cafe "Polygon", located in Kostroma.

The case was opened under Part 3 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - Negligence, negligently resulting in the death of two or more persons.

“In Kostroma, a criminal case has been initiated on the fact of the negligence of officials, which led to the death of people as a result of a fire. The investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kostroma Region, based on the results of a procedural check on the fact of negligence, which negligently caused the death of two or more persons, initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation", - the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia said.

The investigators noted that the responsible officials did not plan and did not carry out control measures in the field of fire safety for a long time. According to investigators, due to the lack of control and prevention of fires in the building of the nightclub, fire protection “was not provided at the facility”.

The Investigative Committee of Russia reported that a fire in a cafe that occurred on November 5 killed 13 people and injured 6 more visitors to the club. The press service noted that this is a consequence of the violations of fire safety requirements.

The investigation into the incident continues, the circumstances of the incident are being established. Investigators are examining video footage, and forensics are examining additional samples from the fire.
