The ex-head of the department of property relations of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Yevgenia Vasilyeva, convicted in the case of Oboronservis, became an honorary academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAA). She told about this on Instagram.

“I would like to thank the Russian Academy of Arts for the honor of being an honorary academician of the Russian Academy of Arts”, - Vasilyeva commented on a published photograph in which she is wearing an academic cap and gown and holding a certificate and diploma of an honorary member of the Academy in her hands.

On the website of the Russian Academy of Arts, the former official is already listed in the academy. There she is presented as a lawyer, artist and art critic. Since 2014, Vasilyeva has been conducting artistic activities under the pseudonym EVA, indicated on the website. Her works have been exhibited in Russian and foreign galleries.

Weve to remind: in May 2015, Vasilyeva was found guilty of fraud with the property of the Ministry of Defense, in the legalization of illegally obtained funds, as well as in abuse of office. By a court verdict she was sentenced to five years in prison in a general regime colony.

However, Vasilieva spent only 34 days in prison. In August 2015, she was released on parole, since by the time the sentence was pronounced, she had served almost half of her sentence.

In 2017, the Investigative Committee denied information about the return of the seized property to Vasilyeva. The law enforcers explained that after the examination, the arrest was removed only from the paintings, as they were of no artistic value.
