Last night became the coldest since the beginning of winter in Russia. Forecasters state that a powerful anticyclone became the reason for the sharp cooling in the European part of the country.

In all regions, the air temperature dropped to abnormally low for this period indicators: in Tatarstan - to minus 16 degrees, in the Astrakhan region - to minus 15.

Unusual footage was filmed in southern Russia, where the air temperature dropped to minus 9-10 degrees - the beaches of the Azov Sea were strewn with frozen fish. With the morning tide, she did not have time to go to the depth. Once on the shore, it froze in a matter of minutes, reports 5-tv.ru with reference to eyewitnesses.

A hurricane wind in the Rostov region led to the shallowing of the Don. In some areas, an ice crust formed on the surface of the water, and the river mouth turned into an icy desert.

The main metropolitan weather station notes that the past night was the coldest since the beginning of winter. By nine o'clock in the morning, the air temperature in the city dropped to minus 10 degrees. The frosty night was in 1896, when the air temperature dropped to minus 29 degrees, forecasters say. And the hottest period fell on 2008, when the air temperature on that day was plus 6.8 degrees, writes Interfax.

Forecasters predict that frosty weather with air temperatures below 10 degrees will continue in Moscow until the weekend.
