The media learned about the plans of hackers to attack the accounts of Russians

The attack on the Russians was planned by the hackers in May, Izvestia reports, citing DeviceLock's cybersecurity experts. In April, access to the switchboard of one of the mobile operators was sold on the darknet. When connected to it, you can take control of the SS7 signaling system, which manages the traffic of mobile operators.

This risk was confirmed by Kaspersky Lab, Positive Technologies, Jet Infosystem and Bi.zone.

"Attacks on the SS7 signaling system are used primarily to intercept authorization SMS messages from credit institutions, postal services, as well as various electronic wallets. With their help, attackers can then enter the personal account of the bank and use the money of a potential victim”, - said Olesya Yarmolenko, CEO of SmartLine Inc (a manufacturer of DeviceLock systems).

She added that the preparation of such an attack takes from two weeks to a month, and therefore it can be predicted that it will happen in May 2021. Moreover, for the May holidays, the Russians will weaken control over their accounts and assets.

Bank representatives commented on the possible attacks, noting that only codes from SMS messages are not enough for hackers for this, they will need logins and passwords from their personal accounts.

It's worth reminding that phishing sites that are counterfeit banks are increasingly being detected in the country. Вi.Zone calculated that in the first quarter of 2021 the number of such fake banks increased by 20%.
