We are talking about penal colony No. 9 of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Rostov Region, located in the city of Shakhty, northeast of Rostov-on-Don. On May 14, correctional colony No. 2, located in Rostov-on-Don itself, was closed for two-week quarantine in the same region because of the coronavirus COVID-19.

The term for which quarantine was introduced in correctional colony No. 9 on June 6 is unknown. The press service of the FSIN noted that this was done before a special order. It is also unknown who exactly - employees or convicts were diagnosed with coronavirus infection and how many people affected it. In colony No. 2 in May, a coronavirus was detected in one of the employees.

The quarantine rules in the colony mean that acceptance of parcels and transfers by convicts ceases there, a special procedure for admitting defenders and lawyers comes into force, the Kommersant newspaper notes . Upon entering, they measure the temperature, they must wear masks, gloves and shoe covers. But even under such conditions, rooms equipped with glass partitions are allocated for their work so that there is no air contact between those who came from outside the colony and the convicts. Also, during the quarantine period, convicts will not be transferred to other colonies, and employees will switch to a two-week work schedule without going outside the institution during this time.

As of today, 6542 cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the Rostov Region, 51 people have died from its consequences. There are 663 patients in hospitals in the region, 32 of them in serious condition on mechanical ventilation devices.

At the end of May, the FSIN reported that 980 employees of the FSIN and 238 prisoners were confirmed with oronavirus COVID-19, according to RIA Novosti. According to the agency, by that time 87 prisoners and 405 employees of correctional institutions had recovered.
