The head of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal was detained on July 9 - for the first time in the recent history of the Russian Federation, the governor is suspected of involvement in the killings.

Political analyst Sergey Markov called the detention of the opposition governor Furgal, whose victory in the election in 2018 from the United Russia party thundered throughout the country, an indicative one.

- An indicative blow to everyone who wants to challenge the candidate of the ruling party in the next election - are you sure that you are clean before the law? Did you conduct business cleanly, without breaking the law? And if you check? - the political scientist writes on the Echo of Moscow site.

According to Markov, the "law of the 90s" is still working: "almost all the regional alternatives to power are somehow connected with criminality, except for the Communist Party".

- Now a new model is being created - elections, but with the possibility of arresting the winner after the election. Let's see how this model works. But now for sure, the number of people wishing to wrest victory from United Russia party in regional elections due to populist criticism will greatly decrease. And sooner or later, investigators will come to the most risky with the same question - are you sure that your business does not violate the law? - the expert asks a question.

Let us recall that the head of the Khabarovsk Territory was detained today on suspicion of attempted murder and the murder of the entrepreneurs. He was taken to Moscow.
