Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu ordered the commander of the Joint Group of Russian Forces, General of the Army Sergey Surovikin, to withdraw troops from Kherson. He agreed with the general's "difficult decision" and indicated that the lives of the servicemen "are a priority".

"Comprehensively assessing the current situation, it is proposed to take up defense along the left bank of the Dnieper River", - Surovikin reported to the minister.

He also pointed out that "part of the forces and means will be released, which will be used for active operations, including offensive ones, in other directions in the operation zone". The head of the defense department agreed with the general.

"I agree with your conclusions and suggestions. For us, the life and health of Russian servicemen is always a priority. We must also take into account the threat to the civilian population. Make sure all civilians who want to can leave. Proceed with the withdrawal of troops and take all measures to ensure the safe transfer of personnel, weapons and equipment across the Dnieper River", - said Sergey Shoigu and ordered the withdrawal of troops.
