The Prosecutor General's Office offered not to fine small corrupt officials

According to the head of the department, Igor Krasnov, questions were raised about the possibility of "applying the institution of exemption from criminal liability for commission of crimes of small and medium gravity with the appointment of a court fine".

“A number of corrupt structures fall into this category, which, in my opinion, is hardly reasonable given the sphere of legal relations they encroach on”, - RIA Novosti quotes the words of the Prosecutor General.

According to Krasnov, the Prosecutor General's Office has prepared amendments to the law to limit the possibility of "hearing by courts in this order" of criminal cases of corruption.

“While the initiatives are being coordinated, we managed to significantly reduce the number of such criminal cases (from 1113 to 484) by organizational measures”, - he specified.

Krasnov also suggested that officials should not be allowed to work for those who at least once were convicted under the Criminal Code article.

Note that, according to the report of the Prosecutor General's Office, most of the corruption crimes among Russian officials in 2020 were committed by employees of the security forces. Of these, 17.4% are those who held positions in law enforcement agencies (1,897 people). In second place are officials from the system of the Russian Ministry of Defense, they have committed more than 12% of all corruption crimes.
