Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained a large number of cases of new coronavirus infection in the country by the using of “the maximum possible number of tests”. According to him, the low mortality rate from COVID-19 in the Russian Federation is explained by the “effective” healthcare.

Responding to assumptions that Russia is “manipulating” coronavirus statistics, Peskov said in an interview with CNN that the whole thing is the Russian healthcare system.

“Have you ever thought that Russia has a more effective healthcare system that makes it possible for more people to survive”, - Peskov answered.

He also added that President Vladimir Putin does not think about ratings when making decisions.

“If you are a real statesman, you should not think about your ratings, because if you think about your ratings, you will not be able to make responsible decisions”, - said the spokesman for the head of state.

When asked about the mistakes made in the fight against coronavirus in Russia, Peskov answered that "everything went as it should", - and "the very fact of the existence of a coronavirus became a problem."

- We have a number of densely populated cities. It is these cities around the world that are most affected by infection. And such a situation was in Moscow, the representative of the Kremlin noted.

Regarding the relations between the two countries, Peskov expressed hope that the upcoming US elections could open the way for their improvement, and the pandemic would trigger a global discussion on overcoming future health crises.

Let us recall that earlier Dmitry Peskov said that the "improving" situation with coronavirus would allow a safe vote on constitutional amendments.

In total, 485,253 people have become ill with coronavirus since the outbreak of the epidemic. 6,142 patients died. More than 240 thousand people recovered and were discharged from medical facilities.
