It was said by the head of the therapeutic department of the Israeli hospital Shamir Asaf A Rofe, infectious disease doctor Galina Goltsman.
She said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the so-called repeated cases of infection are diagnosed if "there were mistakes".
"We observe in a large number of people that at first the patient has a negative result, and after a few days they take an analysis and it is again positive, and then again negative. That is, we know that the virus can persist in the nasopharynx for up to a month. And repeated cases can be cases when a person has not yet recovered from the first illness", - Goltzman explained.
According to her, now it is known about several dozen cases of re-disease in relation to millions of cases of infection in general, and this is "practically negligible".
"If a person has had a coronavirus, then in all the literature available at the moment, the second disease will pass easier, because the immune system is already familiar with this virus and begins to actively produce antibodies", - the infectious disease specialist said.
Last week, Israeli media reported the country's first death from re-infection with covid. But according to the latest data, there is no exact data that the patient really got sick again.
Previously, scientists from Rockefeller University (New York) published a study that provides compelling evidence that those who have recovered from COVID-19 are able to protect themselves from infection much faster and more efficiently when they encounter the virus again.
