The Central Bank reported a twofold increase in successful hacker attacks in Russia. First of all, criminals on the Internet were interested in money - the amount of stolen goods increased by almost 40% and reached 32 million rubles as a result of 130 attacks.

Also, according to the website of the radio station Ekho Moskvy, the criminals carried out 15 computer attacks on ATMs. Twice they managed to connect to their systems, as a result of which another four million rubles were stolen.

In total, according to the Central Bank, in 2020, cybercriminals stole 9.8 billion rubles from the accounts of clients of Russian banks, which is 52% more than in 2019, the number of transactions without the client's consent increased by 34%, - notes vz.ru. The Central Bank emphasizes that such crimes are often committed using methods of "social engineering", when fraudsters convince their victims to deceive their victims to give out card details or an online bank by phone.

For example, the other day the police opened a case after stealing 23 million rubles from the daughter of the famous pilot Valery Chkalov. An unknown person called her and, posing as a law enforcement officer, asked to transfer all her savings to a "safe account", since her personal data is allegedly in the public domain, - notes RBC. This case was taken under control by the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin.
