An action to support the arrested governor Sergei Furgal was again held in Khabarovsk

“Freedom to Sergey Furgal”, “Furgal is our choice”, “Return Furgal”, with such slogans and patriotic songs, the townspeople marched along the main streets.

Despite the fact that the number of protesters was significantly less than on Saturday, the police tightened security measures. Riot policemen in full outfit arrived at the regional government building, and police lined up in front of him, but again did not intervene in the course of the rally.

According to estimates by the regional headquarters of the politician Alexei Navalny, who conducted a live broadcast of the action on Sunday, almost two thousand residents of the city took to the streets, Ekho Moskvy reports . A similar meeting was held on Sunday in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

The rally held the day before on Saturday became the most massive in the history of Khabarovsk.

Regional authorities again called on people not to take part in spontaneous rallies.

“In the wake of the desire of many of you to express support to the incumbent governor Sergei Furgal, provocative slogans and calls from representatives of the non-systemic opposition began to sound. Keep prudence! We remind you that any rallies are unauthorized now. Organizers and participants need to understand that they can be held accountable. On the eve of July 11, according to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, from 10 to 12 thousand people took part in an unauthorized rally in Khabarovsk. According to unofficial data, the number of protesters, according to various estimates, reached from 35 to 55 thousand. Protesters against the arrest of Sergei Furgal staged a march along the central streets and a many-hour rally near the government building on Lenin Square. The protesters demanded that Sergei Furgal be tried not in Moscow, but in Khabarovsk.

On July 9, FSB officers detained the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, and delivered him to Moscow. The next day, the Basmanny Court of Moscow decided to arrest him for two months on charges of attempted murders and organizing murders of entrepreneurs in 2004-2005 in the Khabarovsk Territory and Amur Region. Furgal himself pleads not guilty. He is currently in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center.
