Tests of the world's first coronavirus vaccine have been successfully completed in Russia

This was stated by RIA Novosti director of the Institute of Translational Medicine and Biotechnology Sechenovskogo University Vadim Tarasov.

Clinical trials of a vaccine developed by the N.F. National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Gamalei began at Sechenov University on June 18.

"Sechenovskiy University has successfully completed tests on volunteers of the world's first vaccine against coronavirus," Tarasov said.

The objective of this stage of research was to prove the safety of the new drug for human health and the problem was successfully solved, said Alexander Lukashev, director of the Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Vector-borne Diseases of the Sechenov University.

"The safety of the vaccine is confirmed. It corresponds to the safety of those vaccines that are currently on the market," Lukashev explained.

According to him, the next steps in developing a vaccine are already determined by the developer's strategy, taking into account the complexity of the epidemiological situation and the possibility of scaling up production.

Volunteers were divided into two groups. The first received one dose of the vaccine, the second gave two. In addition to an increase in body temperature in the first days after vaccination, the volunteers did not reveal any negative reactions, everyone feels fine, Lukashev noted.

To exclude coronavirus infection, the volunteers were isolated for a long period of time and did not contact the outside world before testing began.

According to Tarasov, prolonged isolation affected the psychological state of the subjects. In the course of research, emotional stress increased and conflicts often arose, so psychologists had to be involved in the work.

Volunteers will soon return to their usual lives, but after discharge, their health status will be monitored by doctors who will evaluate how their immunity behaves.

Recall that earlier volunteers who were given the drug noted an increase in temperature. However, these symptoms disappeared within 24 hours.

It should be noted that at the end of June and in China, they began testing on humans the first coronavirus vaccine developed by Chinese scientists. The military became the first volunteers.

Earlier, scientists from the United Kingdom and the United States expressed doubts that the first vaccines could be one hundred percent protect against coronavirus.
