The Moscow Department of Health explained the excess mortality with the "delta" strain and abnormal heat

So, in June 2021, the peak values of the incidence of coronavirus were recorded. A large number of seriously ill patients were observed in hospitals - from 1.7 to 1.9 thousand people were admitted there daily. This is due to the spread of the Indian delta strain. In this regard, 4,886 people died from coronavirus as the main cause in June. Another 641 Muscovites died for another reason, but at the same time they were infected with the coronavirus.

Also, the health department associates the increase in mortality with the abnormal heat, which was observed in June. Such weather has led to an exacerbation of diseases of the cardiovascular system. According to doctors, due to the heat, the body loses fluid, the blood viscosity increases - because of this, the risk of blood clots and stroke increases.

"Thus, the excess mortality in June 2021 due to the influence of two factors - a sharp rise in the incidence of new coronavirus infection in connection with the spread of a new strain and abnormally hot weather", - believe in depzdrave Moscow.

According to estimates by Mediazona, 6,945 more people died in Moscow than expected according to the mortality trend. The increase in mortality was 75%. In addition, from April 1, 2020 to June 1, 2021, half a million more people died in Russia than expected.
