At an extraordinary session, the deputies of the Yakutsk City Duma accepted the resignation of the mayor, Sardana Avksentiyeva, who had earlier announced her early resignation.

17 parliamentarians voted for the decision of the now former mayor, six voted against, one deputy abstained.

First deputy mayor of Yakutsk, Yevgeny Grigoriyev, has been appointed acting mayor of Yakutsk.

Chairman of the Yakutsk City Duma Albert Semyonov expressed gratitude to Sardana Avksentiyeva for two and a half years of fruitful work.

The fact that Avksentiyeva decided to leave the post of head of the Yakut capital became known on January 11. On her Instagram page, she said that health problems forced her to resign. Early elections for the mayor of Yakutsk are to be held in spring.

Sardana Avksentiyeva won the 2018 elections and became the first female mayor in the history of Yakutsk. In addition, she, the representative of the party "Revival of Russia", ahead of including United Russia Alexander Savvinov.

Experts believe that Avksentiyeva's resignation may also be related to the fact that earlier the Yakut mayor called for voting against the amendments to the Constitution.
