After four years in prison, a German citizen of Russian origin Anna Sorokina was released. The swindler received from gullible members of the "high society" of New York more than 274 thousand dollars and lived for months for free in the best hotels in the city.

She was sentenced for 12 years of imprisonment, but was released on parole.

Albion prison officials confirmed to NBCNews that 30-year-old Sorokina was released on parole for good behavior.

The girl posed as a wealthy German heiress and introduced herself as Anna Delvey. In April 2019, a jury found Sorokina guilty of four counts of theft, three counts of large-scale fraud and one episode of attempted fraud. Judge Diana Kisel presided over the trial. In her closing remarks, she said that she was amazed at the depth of deception demonstrated by the accused.

The prosecutor said that Sorokina took money from her American friends, bankers and lived in hotels, convincing everyone around her that her father was a diplomat or an oil business owner, and that her personal fortune was estimated at $ 60 million.

Once she invited her friend on a trip to Morocco and promised to pay for the trip, and then left her with a bill for 62 thousand dollars. Another time, Sorokina received a $ 100,000 loan from the bank and did not return it.

Anna Sorokina forged financial documents to get a $ 22 million loan to open a private art club in Manhattan. The owner of the Park Avenue building was willing to provide her with a large space for this.

She fraudulently stole $ 275,000 from unsuspecting wealthy people, of which $ 35,000 was spent on a private jet to and from Nebraska.

In the last word, Sorokina apologized to the court for the "mistakes made".

The daughter of a truck driver from Russia came with her family to Germany when she was 16 years old, Der Spiegel writes. In 2016, Sorokina left for the USA, where her epic began in New York. The story of the swindler attracted a lot of attention from filmmakers. Celebrity producer Shonda Rimes bought the rights to the series for Netflix. Julia Garner will star in the title role. Insider wrote that Sorokina sold the rights for 320 thousand dollars. With them, she paid off her lawyers and victims of deceptions, and also paid the fines imposed on her by the court.

After leaving prison, the first thing the fraudster did was renewed her Instagram account by posting her photo. On it, Sorokina lies in bed in sunglasses. The caption reads: "You have no idea how exhausting the prison is". Her lawyer said that Anna served her time, like everyone else, and she did not have any special conditions.

Anna Sorokina is a German citizen, so she will soon be expelled from the United States, because, according to the American migration authorities, she "exceeded the period of stay in the States on the visa issued to her".

However, the girl will not be left without a penny, or a cent, money. HBO has also taken an interest in the liar's story and is in talks with her for its own series.
