Kommersant: producers ask to raise the price of lunch meat

Russian meat processors turned to representatives of retail chains with a request to increase purchase prices for finished products by 10-15%.

This is reported by Kommersant, citing representatives of retailers. The publication points out that manufacturers are arguing for requests by the rise in prices for pork and chicken meat.

One of the meat processors said that now the cost of a first category broiler carcass is 138 rubles per kg, and a year earlier the price was 92 rubles. Pork has grown from 119 rubles last year to 138 rubles this year.

The Ministry of Agriculture explained that at the beginning of the year the prices for pork and poultry meat fell due to the oversaturation of the market, and therefore there is no reason to raise purchase prices from meat processors.

After the measures to stabilize prices were introduced, it was decided to significantly increase the export duty on sunflower, introduce quotas for grain supplies abroad and conclude agreements to stabilize prices for sunflower oil and sugar until April 2021.

At the same time, we recall that the head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade Maxim Reshetnikov recognized the freezing of food prices as a failure. During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the head of the department admitted that "the beginning of the year showed that these measures are not enough".

It's worth to note that in 2020, food prices increased by 14% at once.
