The Russian government intends to create a "National Video Surveillance Platform", which will unite all video surveillance systems operating in the country. The development of the platform and the installation of cameras may take five years and 250 billion rubles.

According to Kommersant, National Technologies LLC (49% owned by Rostelecom and 51% owned by Rostec) may become the contractor, and VEB.RF is the source of financing. It is planned that the information system will be part of the Safe City complex.

A source close to the project says the cameras will be equipped with computing modules. Thanks to this, they will be able to independently recognize and record various incidents and then send information to the data center. Now cameras transmit video to the data center in a continuous stream. It is possible that cameras will recognize faces and numbers.

However, experts doubt that the transition to a unified information system will be justified from an economic point of view. Therefore, in one part of the city, there may be cameras with powerful computing modules, and in another - cheaper ones, for example, only with a motion sensor.

Nikolay Komlev, executive director of the Association of Computer and Information Technology Enterprises, does not exclude a data leak, in which case an attacker will gain access to "very sensitive information." “He will be able not only to track your movement in the city, but also in the future to analyze your actions literally step by step”, - he explained.

Note that "smart" cameras are already working in Moscow, including in the metro. In 2021, after protests in support of Alexei Navalny, the police came to the protesters, whose faces were recognized by cameras.
