About 500 doctors died from coronavirus in Russia

"489 are medical workers, that is, almost 500 people of our colleagues have unfortunately lost", - the head of the department quotes RIA Novosti.

As previously reported by the Mediazona, mortality from coronavirus among Russian doctors is 16 times higher than in six countries with comparable incidence rates, including Iran.

At the end of May, the American news agency Associated Press reported that according to its data at that time, nearly nine and a half thousand Russian doctors had become infected with COVID-19, saving the lives of sick Russians.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised all medical workers working with coronavirus payments from 25 to 80 thousand rubles, depending on qualifications. Many doctors complained about the lack of promised surcharges or their meager amounts. After that, the Russian president reprimanded the heads of the regions , instructing to rectify the situation.

Meanwhile, as reported the day before, a survey by RNC Pharma and Doctor at Work showed that every third doctor did not receive the promised payments for working with COVID-19. Doctors are denied premiums because their specialty is not on the list of those who should be in contact with people with a viral disease

Today, June 18, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Mikhail Mishustin, announced the allocation of another billion rubles by the government for presidential payments to doctors who work with patients with coronavirus.

According to the latest data, in Russia more than 561 thousand infected with coronavirus infection were detected, 7.6 thousand patients died.
