Two years ago, the country's government reported a record increase in this indicator, but this year it decreased for the first time since 2003.

Pandemic

In 2019, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation announced that the life expectancy of Russians at birth (the number of years that a person can live on average, provided that throughout the life of his generation, the mortality rate at each age remains unchanged) set a new record: In 2019, life expectancy in Russia reached its historical maximum and amounted to 73.4 years. "

At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Health Veronika Skvortsova announced the figures: for women, life expectancy was 78.5 years, for men it was ten years less - 68.5, which approximately corresponded to the world average, and the rate of increase in this indicator was one of the highest among developed countries. ...

However, the pandemic has significantly spoiled these numbers, throwing our country back. As you can see in the infographics, the situation in Russia is the most unfavorable of all European countries. Life expectancy has decreased for the first time since 2003, so the country will not be able to return to the 2019 level earlier than in three years. In 2021, this figure will be 71.7 years, next - 72.3 years, in 2023 - 72.9 years, and in 2024 - 73.6 years.
