The Kremlin is considering the possibility of voting on amendments to the Constitution and the Victory Day parade on the same day, June 24.

This was reported by RBC, citing sources close to the Kremlin.

There is no final decision on both issues. Everything will depend on the epidemiological situation. As options, consideration was given to the possibility of voting in early July, and the parade on September 3. Earlier, Kommersant wrote that there are two dates for voting - June 24 and July 8.

If the Victory Parade is decided to be held in June, then this should become a form of inspiration for citizens, which will not be superfluous after a long period of quarantine, one of RBC’s interlocutors believes.

Another channel source said that holding the parade and voting on the same day is convenient, because in this case, Wednesday, June 24, will be declared a day off. Earlier it was reported that the constitutional voting day would be a paid holiday. Note that on June 24 the Victory Parade in 1945 took place.

At the same time, the parade on September 3 may cause some world leaders to refuse to attend the anniversary event in Moscow. For example, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe refused to come to Russia that day. Recall that it was in September 45th that the hostilities in the Kuril Islands ended , which today became the main subject of dispute between Russia and Japan. By the way, the Japanese prime minister already refused to come to Moscow on Victory Day in 2015.

Meanwhile, the Russian authorities spent more than a billion rubles on preparations for the Victory Day parade, which did not take place on May 9 because of the coronavirus. This year’s preparation for the anniversary parade was 2.5 times more expensive than last year’s parade.
