The Zavolzhsky District Court of Tver ordered the Ministry of Internal Affairs to improve the conditions of detention in the special detention center of the city police after a complaint by local activist Artyom Vazhenkov * (entered in the register of foreign agents).

The activist filed a complaint after spending 10 days in this reception center. In January of this year, he was arrested for organizing an uncoordinated protest in support of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. In social networks, he disseminated information about the upcoming rally and his readiness to participate in it. However, he did not manage to go to the rally. On the day it was held, the activist was detained at his house.

The activist's appeal stated that there was no hot and drinking water in the cells of this special detention center, there was no ventilation, no sanitation of bed linen was carried out, and there was no door to the toilet. In addition, the police did not inform the arrested about their rights and duties. After the appeal of the activist, the prosecutor's office carried out a check. The department did not find violations on the facts indicated by the activist, but revealed other violations. However, what violations were identified, the prosecutor's office did not specify. The department only instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs to eliminate them, the newspaper "7x7" writes.

Since the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not do this, the prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit against the department.

By the decision of the court, by the end of the year, the department must install a table with benches in three cells of the special detention center, and install cabinets and shelves in nine cells for storing the things of the arrested. The toilets should have doors and the cells should have washbasins with hot water.

“Now, in the Tver special detention center, it will not be possible to poop in front of everyone. This is great news, "the activist commented to the publication, adding that this court decision proves that" even in an authoritarian regime, human rights activities can be carried out".
