The Ministry of Emergencies has developed a national standard that defines the requirements for mass burials of people and animals in wartime and in emergency situations. This is the first time such a standard has been developed in the country; it will come into force on February 1 next year.

In particular, the document spelled out the requirements for the territory where the burial will be carried out, for the location of the walls of mourning and the distance between the coffins.

Thus, the choice of the site should "ensure an indefinitely long life of the burial site" and be selected taking into account the rules for building the settlement, the features of the relief and permissible loads on the environment. The area of the site should be no more than 40 hectares.

Burials are not allowed to be carried out in the first and second zones of the sanitary protection zone of the water supply source and on the banks of water bodies that are used for bathing and domestic needs.

The distance between the bodies according to GOST must be at least half a meter vertically and horizontally. The gaps between burials should be filled with a layer of earth and a layer of brushwood.

In addition, it is indicated that the regional executive authorities must in peacetime create stocks of coffins, pathological bags, personal protective equipment and other means for urgent burials.

The document specifies that the burial of the dead from especially dangerous infections should be carried out in galvanized, hermetically sealed coffins.

The fact that a standard for mass graves would appear in the country became known in mid-December. It was clarified that this is a strictly technical document, point by point, that describes all the burial work.
