Russian enterprises produced 8.45 billion tons of industrial waste last year, which is 21.5% more than in 2020 and 9% more than in 2019.

According to Kommersant, citing data from FinExpertiza, 60% of waste comes from the coal industry, 28.4% from the extraction of metal ores.

The largest increase in industrial waste in annual terms was recorded in the Kemerovo Region (+873 million tons), Krasnoyarsk Territory (+150.2 million tons) and Buryatia (+83.3 million tons). On the contrary, they reduce the amount of waste in Kamchatka (-93.4%), in Kalmykia (-64.4%) and Dagestan (-63%).

The production of non-metallic mineral products turned out to be the least “dirty” - 10.5 million tons of waste per year, also in this list are water supply and waste disposal (11.9 million tons) and electrification, gasification and steam supply (18.7 million tons).

At the end of last year, it became known that the Cabinet of Ministers had prepared a draft amendment to the law on liability for waste disposal for manufacturers and importers of goods. Starting in 2023, manufacturers will be required to completely recycle packaging from their products. The standard for the disposal of goods is proposed to be increased by at least 10% every year.
