Every tenth call in Russia is made by telephone scammers trying to seize the money of bank customers, Sberbank calculated.

As the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Stanislav Kuznetsov said at a meeting of the State Duma's inter-factional working group, telephone fraudsters have become more active in Russia recently, who have mastered the technology of substituting telephone numbers. According to Kuznetsov, it is necessary to urgently introduce liability for telecoms in order to protect Russians from financial threats.

“According to our calculations, now every tenth call made to any citizen of Russia is a telephone fraud”, - Prime quotes Kuznetsov's speech.

According to the deputy chairman of the board of Sber, one of such "accomplices" of large-scale fraud are telecoms, especially regional ones, which even make money on this.

“Therefore, it is proposed to amend the Code of Administrative Offenses related to the fact that we have some kind of sanctions for the fact that this is happening”, - he said. So far in Russia there is no punishment for cheating subscribers when substituting phone numbers, which is used by swindlers.

Very often, calls from fraudsters are displayed as coming from the capital, while in reality the signals are coming from many other regions, as well as from abroad. To combat such technologies, amendments to the communications law are needed. According to bankers, the adoption of such an amendment will reduce the scale of telephone fraud in the country by 60-70%.

Earlier it was reported that scammers weekly invent new ways to deceive Russians. Many do not hesitate to call their victims many times in the hope of finding out more personal information about a person in order to further use this data for their new scams.
