The Ministry of Internal Affairs admitted that is not ready for the increasing of cybercrime during the pandemic

In an interview with RIA Novosti, he noted that today "the great evil is not concentrated in the field of street crime, and these even are not the problems associated with the self-isolation regime, when the police must identify the violators."

Zhdanov noted that the police were not ready for the growth of cybercrimes. But the professionalism of fraudsters has grown amid the current situation.

- Today, the fight against cybercrime comes to the fore. Here we were not ready. Cyber fraudsters act in today's circumstances more cohesively, professionally, competently, - said the lieutenant general.

Meanwhile, large banks have reported an increase in the number of frauds against their customers during the self-isolation regime. As a rule, criminals use phone calls and exploit negative news about the pandemic and the economy, writes RBC.

The Russian Interior Ministry said that in the first quarter of this year, the number of IT crimes increased by 83.9% compared with the same period in 2019. Moreover, only in March the number of fraudulent activities using electronic means of payment more than doubled.

The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that from January 2020 to March, the number of recorded murders and attempted murders decreased by 4.9%. Street crime decreased by 3.3%.

Psychologists have reported an increase in domestic violence and suicidal treatment during the period of self-isolation.
