44 out of 85 Russian regions will soon be able to move to the first stage of lifting restrictions imposed in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, said Anna Popova, head of the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor).

- 44 subjects - more than the half of the Russian Federation - already have reason to proceed to the first stage today or tomorrow. This is the dynamics. Our scientists say that another two weeks and we will be able to move on to the next stage, - Popova said on the air of channel Russia-1.

The situation with coronavirus in the country has stabilized, said Popova.

They will assess whether the region is ready to remove quarantine by the distribution coefficient equal to the number of people that one person can infect before being isolated.

- The forecast and prospects of today's changes are quite stable and prosperous. This is due to the fact that when we left the non-working day on the 11th day, we introduced new criteria for assessing the transition to the first stage. Our distribution coefficient (...) was less than one or equal to one in only nine subjects. Today it is less than one in 27 entities and another 17 it is equal to one, ”explained the head of Rospotrebnadzor.

But it’s too early to “fall into euphoria,” she is sure. Mitigation of restrictive measures will occur gradually and carefully. According to Popova, the number of deaths may increase, because the peak in mortality comes later than the epidemiological. At the same time, Popova noted, deaths were not recorded among those who are at home treatment.

At the same time, only Moscow and the Moscow Region remain the only regions that have overcome the peak of incidence of COVID-19. In other subjects of the Russian Federation, the peak will pass within the next one or two weeks, said Agasi Tavadyan, an expert at the Center for Economic Research.

According to the expert, a long plateau will fall on the North Caucasian Federal District and the North-West Federal District. Perhaps the decrease in the incidence rate will last until the fall.

To date, 344,481 cases of coronavirus have been identified in Russia. As of May 24, there were 8,599 new registered cases. 3,541 people have died since the start of the pandemic in the country. 113 299 patients recovered.
