In 2023, the city authorities will increase social payments to families with children by 10%. This was announced by the Vice-Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.

As noted by Interfax with reference to the data of the officials, now more than 1.5 million families live in the capital, in which about 2.2 million children are brought up.

“Next year, city social payments to families with children will increase by 10%”, - the agency quoted Rakova as saying.

Over the past 12 years, the number of large families in Moscow has tripled to 200,000. Almost 500 thousand children grow up in them. As measures to support families with children, the authorities help mothers on maternity leave acquire new skills, provide families with psychological and legal assistance.

In recent years, many Russian regions have faced the problem of a sharp drop in the birth rate. For example, in the Kostroma region, the number of children born, compared with the data of 10 years ago, has halved: from 12.9 to 7 ppm (number of births per thousand population). Sociologists attribute the problem to the impoverishment of the population and the decline in confidence in the future. To change the demographic situation, the subjects began to introduce additional measures to support large families.
